DOG MOMS DOING GOOD
Dog Moms Doing Good started in 2025. It is comprised of volunteers of Raining Cats and Dogs Shelter and Sanctuary and although we call ourselves “Dog Moms Doing Good,” we also welcome our shelter’s cat moms, dog dads and cat dads as well.
We are a group of shelter volunteers that got together and decided to meet quarterly to collect donations for local organizations that are doing good in our community. Our volunteers recognize that there are some much needed items that organizations have a hard time collecting. We experience that ourselves with our rescue. Once a quarter, we decide on a local organization that is special to one of our volunteers and we reach out to them to find out what items they have a hard time collecting. Then our Dog Moms get to work collecting these much needed items. It’s a bonus that our quarterly meeting happens to also be a night out with our fellow dog moms!
2026 Quarter 1
For our second donation drive, we have chosen ECHO (Emergency Care Help Organization). ECHO’s mission is to assist residents of Hillsborough County who are in crisis by providing emergency food and clothing, along with life-stabilizing programs and resources. When we contacted our local chapter, we learned that there are specific items that they are lacking. We were told that female toiletry and hygiene items are vital supplies that are needed for families who have been displaced from their homes. We knew this was something that our Dog Moms would be able to collect and donate to these families in need.
2025 Quarter 4
For our very first donation drive, we chose Vietnam Veterans of America of Polk County Chapter 1040. This is special to us because it is special to two of our favorite adopters, Kenny and Debbie Weberman. The Webermans adopted a cat and dog from us, attend nearly every RCAD event and regularly collect linens for our shelter pets from the people in their community. When we heard that Kenny, a Vietnam veteran, has spent the past 5 years collecting toiletry items for long term care patients at the Veterans Hospital and that these items are not provided to these patients unless they are donated, we knew this was something that we wanted to help with. Our group collected shampoo, body soap, shaving cream, razors, toothpaste, toothbrushes, underwear, and deodorant.
